Abraham Lincoln, as a 23-year-old captain in the volunteer militia was mustered at Fort Dixon during the Black Hawk Indian War in 1832 and helped bury 10 fellow soldiers killed in the Battle of Stillman’s Run that took place in what is now called Stillman Valley, in Ogle County.
