The Heritage Farm Museum is part of the Byron Forest Preserve District and includes five restored farm buildings demonstrating early farm life. It is open daily from Apr. 1 to Oct. 31, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In 1843, Charlie Wilbur and his family came from New York and settled across the river from Byron, Illinois. The farm, now called Heritage Farm, remained in the Wilbur family for five generations. The Byron Forest Preserve has restored the farm buildings so that future generations can discover what early country life was all about.
You can enjoy a free self-guided tour of the grout house. Look around the barns at the local “residents” and walk around the grounds to see the live chickens. Admission is free, but a small fee may be charged for guided tours.
