Savanna Sesquicentennial Celebration

FreeBicycle Decorating | 2pm
The Savanna Museum, at 406 Main Street, welcomes anyone wishing a little help decorating their bike, trike, stroller, wagon, etc., for the parade to stop in. Decorating supplies will be provided.
It’s a first-time event! Savanna Historical Walk | 3pm
Savanna kicks off its first “Historical Walk.” Begin at the Savanna Museum & Cultural Center, 406 Main Street, Savanna, IL, and pick up a map to help guide the 2.3-mile walk to ten historical sites. The pathways are all paved and on level ground.
From 3-4:30, a person will be at each site portraying the appropriate historical figure.
The sites are:
- Savanna Museum and Cultural Center/historian Gene Wright and musician Wayne King
- The Pierce Monument/Harriet and Aaron Pierce, Savanna’s first settlers
- Captain Rhodes house/Steamboat Captain John Rhodes
- The Veterans Memorial/Dale Gardner, astronaut
- Marquette Park/Na-me-qua and Nah-seu-skuk Native Americans
- Steamboat Landing
- Savanna Train Car/railroad conductor
- Law Jones Funeral Home/Mel Jones
- Savanna’s first City Hospital/Helen Scott Hay, a famous WW1 nurse
- The Pulford House/historical murder
Sesquicentennial Festival | 6pm
Celebrate at West Carroll High School, at 500 Cragmoor St., following the parade.
Activities include a flag-burning ceremony, live music from Marques Morel, a hot dog stand, a taco truck, a slushie station, a dunk tank, craft and business vendors, a face painter, balloon twister, 360-degree photo booth, and games from the 1800s
