Savanna Historical Walk

It is a first-time event!

On July 5, Savanna kicks off its first “Historical Walk.”

Begin at the Savanna Museum & Cultural Center, 406 Main Street,  Savanna, IL, and pick up a map to help guide the 2.3-mile walk to ten historical sites. The pathways are all paved and on level ground.

From 3-4:30, a person will be at each site portraying the appropriate historical figure.

The sites are:

  1. Savanna Museum and Cultural Center/historian Gene Wright and musician Wayne King
  2. The Pierce Monument/Harriet and Aaron Pierce, Savanna’s first settlers
  3. Captain Rhodes house/Steamboat Captain John Rhodes
  4. The Veterans Memorial/Dale Gardner, astronaut
  5. Marquette Park/Na-me-qua and Nah-seu-skuk Native Americans
  6. Steamboat Landing
  7. Savanna Train Car/railroad conductor
  8. Law Jones Funeral Home/Mel Jones
  9. Savanna’s first City Hospital/Helen Scott Hay, a famous WW1 nurse
  10. The Pulford House/historical murder
