The 4th Annual Bellson Music Fest celebrates the remarkable legacy of Louie Bellson (1924-2009), a Rock Falls native who became a renowned drummer, composer, band leader, and six-time Grammy nominee whose rhythmic innovations continue to inspire musicians today.
Rock Falls Tourism hosts this special event with Francine Bellson, Louie’s widow, and Josh Duffee, a respected music director from Davenport, Iowa.
Bonus | Drum Clinic
11:30 am to 12:30 pm: The festivities begin with an inspiring drum clinic at the McCormick Event Center conducted by Gregg Potter, drummer for The Buddy Rich Big Band Machine. This multi-media experience features Buddy’s daughter Cathy Rich and offers unique insights into percussion mastery.
Four Outstanding Bands
Visitors can enjoy a full day of exceptional music at the RB&W District Amphitheater featuring big band, jazz, blues, and funk performances:
1:00 pm to 2:30 pm – Yorkville Big Band
The Yorkville Big Band combines nostalgic sounds of the 1940s and 50s with modern arrangements of famous big band classics.
3:00 pm to 4:30 pm – Avey Grouws Band
The Avey Grouws Band delivers raw, powerful roots rock beautifully infused with blues and soul.
5:00 pm to 6:30 pm – Josh Duffee and the Blackhawk Broadcasters
Josh Duffee and the Blackhawk Broadcasters showcase music composed and arranged by Louie Bellson and songs recorded by Bellson during his illustrious career in a small group setting.
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm – Rare Element
Rare Element closes the evening with high-intensity funk that masterfully combines soul, jazz, and R&B elements.
Inclement Weather Location
In case of inclement weather, the event will move to the McCormick Event Center at 205 E. 3rd St., Rock Falls.
