Savanna-Sabula Bridge Photography Exhibit
January 13th & 14th and again the 20 & 21st, the Savanna Historical Society and the Bridge Celebration Planners are sponsoring a photography exhibit celebrating the old Savanna-Sabula bridge and the new Dale Gardner Veterans Memorial Bridge. This exhibit will feature bridge related photography of Roger Husband including photos of the old Savanna-Sabula Bridge and the new Dale Gardner Veterans Memorial Bridge at varying stages. The exhibit will contain numerous photos of the bridge workers in action, the machines and tools they used to construct the new bridge and photos of the new bridge throughout its construction.
The exhibit will be held at the Savanna Historical Society and will be open to the public from noon until 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, January 13th, 14th and the 20th and 21st. There will be no admission charged for the exhibit but donations will be greatly appreciated & split between the Historical Society and the Bridge Celebration Planners.
Other informational presentations taking place during the exhibit include:
Sunday, January 14th at 2pm Faith Duncan, Project Engineer, Studies & Plans, from IDOT will present a program covering the Phase I Study and Phase II Contract Plans to replace the aging US 52/IL 64 bridge over the Mississippi River.
Sunday, January 21st at 2pm Kirk Nelson, Municipal Services Manager from Missman, Inc. in Rock Island will present a program on the construction phase of the new bridge, with a focus on the main river crossing. It will also show the wall construction on the Illinois approach.
There will be a reception with light refreshments following each program.
FUND RAISING EFFORTS
The Bridge Celebration Planners are also raising funds to offset the costs of a bronze bridge dedication plaque and various expenses associated with celebratory events being planned to honor local veterans on June 16th and 17th of 2018. All funds raised that are not needed for these bridge dedication celebrations will be donated to American Legion Post 148 to help fund the new Veterans Memorial Park.
Photo Sale. All of the photos featured in the Photography Exhibit will be available for purchase. Roger Husband will be donating 25% of the profit from each photo to the Historical Society and the Bridge Celebration Planners.
Raffle Tickets. The Bridge Celebration Planners will be selling raffle tickets for $5 each for a Cash Raffle that will have a $1,000 1st prize, $500 2nd prize and $250 3rd prize. The drawing for the winning tickets will take place on Saturday, March 24th at Manny’s. Winners do not have to be present.
Volunteers will be available to take orders for photos and sell raffle tickets throughout all four days of the exhibit.
