Bald Eagle Watch | Jan. 6

JAN. 6 - 34th year | 8:30-2:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan 6, you are invited to participate in the 34th annual Bald Eagle Watch at Lock & Dam 13 in Fulton and informational programs at Clinton Community College.

The American Bald Eagle visits the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish Refuge lands each year from late fall through early spring. As many as 2500 bald eagles winter along the Upper Mississippi River from St. Paul, MN to St. Louis, MO.  Our program is dedicated to the understanding, appreciation, and protection of our national symbol.

Naturalists and volunteers will be on hand to share their enthusiasm and knowledge of these and other grand birds of prey.  Programs will feature lectures, videos, stories, and live birds of prey.  The Exhibit Hall at Clinton Community College will feature wildlife exhibits, food and drinks.

8:30 am – 2:30 pm Eagle Watching at Lock #13, Fulton, IL
Naturalists and volunteers will be on hand with spotting scopes available to aid in viewing bald eagles.  Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, spotting scopes and cameras.  Participants are encouraged to wear warm clothing to the viewing site.

Please remember: Winter is a stressful time for bald eagles.  It is important that resting eagles not be frightened to the point that they fly off and burn up badly needed energy.

9:00 am - 2:00 pm Exhibits and Educational Programs at Clinton Community College 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton, IA

NOTE: Due to limited parking, participants are urged to use the free courtesy Bus Service, sponsored by local businesses and provided by Wiersema Charter Bus Service of Morrison, IL.  The bus will travel between the viewing site and the college, departing and arriving every hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. and finishing at 2:00 p.m. See the bus schedule at the college.
