National Straw Sculpting Competition

Straw Sculpting artists from all over

From Aug. 9-25, the historic Mt Morris campus is the location for the 4th annual US National Straw Sculpting Competition. This annual event showcases a variety of giant straw sculptures located around the downtown square.

Aug 24 is the big day

On Saturday, Aug. 24, the annual Straw Fest celebration takes place in downtown Mt Morris on the historic campus.

Events include Round Bale Races, Blacksmith demonstrations; Square Dancing, and live music all day. In addition, the winners of the US National Straw Sculpting Competition will be announced in the evening.

The Straw Jam Stage is an informal live music venue held in the shade next to the straw sculptures.

Did we say "National?"

The annual US National Straw Sculpting Competition showcases a variety of giant straw sculptures that are an exciting presentation of fine art in straw. The competition is judged for two awards. Everyone who visits is eligible to vote for ‘Peoples Choice’ and all competing sculptors vote for ‘Artists Choice’

Community Build starts on Aug. 9

A Community Build starts August 9th and members of the greater community and competition visitors are invited to help us build a larger than life-size Straw Sculpture that will be visible from Hwy 64 as it runs through Mt Morris.

Additional information on all Straw events is available at the link at the top of this page.
