Groundhog Day Animal Tracking Program
The Byron Forest Preserve District will be offering a free Groundhog Day Animal Tracking program on Saturday, February 2 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the Jarrett Prairie Nature Preserve located on North River Road in Byron. Come out and join the quest to follow the tracks of our resident ground hogs, and all of the other wildlife at the Jarrett Prairie Nature Preserve and Indigo Woodland. Led by naturalist Susan Kleiman, discover where animals hole up during the winter and who’s awake and who’s still hibernating. Susan has studied animal tracking from expert wildlife tracker and photographer, Paul Rezendes and has worked in many natural areas from New Mexico to Maryland and Florida to the Nachusa Grasslands.
Dress for the weather, but plan on also spending time in our award-winning Jarrett Prairie Center Museum exploring hands-on exhibits and visiting with our box turtles. This is perfect for all ages but advance registration is required by Thursday, January 31 at 4:00 pm by calling 815 234-8535 extension 200.
